Our research activity is focused on myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) and on their molecular basis, with a special interest in genotype-phenotype correlation and in familial cases. Clinical data are collected at Hematology Unit in Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo; genetic analysis is performed at Molecular Biology Laboratory of the Hematology Unit (head of the lab dr Daniela Pietra).
Our group is involved in national projects, such as the study on megakaryocytes (Alessandra Balduini Lab, University of Pavia) and MYNERVA project, supplied by AIRC. We are also collaborating with University of Chicago (prof. Shannon Elf) and University of Paris (prof. Jean Laurent Casanova). Our research group is joining national and international clinical trials and is involved in the development of new drugs for patients affected by MPN.
The ongoing projects are:
- Identification of genetic predisposition factors in MPN through NGS screening of patients that developed MPN at young age (<27 years) or belong to familial clusters of MPN
- Molecular characterization of myeloid neoplasms through NGS and genotype-phenotype correlations
- Identification of the mechanisms of Unfolded Protein Response (UPR) in patients with CALR mutated MPN (collaboration with Shannon Elf, University of Chicago)
- Identification of anti-interferon autoantibodies (anti-IFN AAbs) in patients with MPN and correlations with the severity of SARS COV2 infection (collaboration with JL Casanova, University of Paris)
